Fallout 76 Seasonal Event Guide: Hunt for the Treasure Hunter

Updated: 2 days ago

Treasure Hunter Mole Miners are adorable, non hostile, hoarders who emit a Morse code-like radio signal. That radio signal will get into your brain and you will hear that signal for the rest of the week, even when you are out in the real world.

Treasure Hunter Mole Miners drop a 1* 2* or 3* weapon or armour piece and a Dusty, Mole Miner, or Ornate Pail upon death.

Mole Miner pails do not drop contextual ammo when opened, however, the Treasure Hunters themselves do drop contextual ammo when looting their corpses, so make sure you have the correct weapon equipped, pending what type of ammo you want/need.

Pails are character-locked and non-tradeable.

If you are looking at farming the Treasure Hunters for their legendaries (scrip) then scroll down to "Farming Method".

If you are just wanting their pails for the plans and apparel, then keep reading.

Purchasing Pails

The most efficient way to obtain the plans and apparel is to purchase the mid-tier "Mole Miner Pail"

Crafted pails have better drop rates and the mid-tier version does not require too many materials to make.

Chemist and Super Duper do not affect crafting and will not give you any extra pails.

Vendor and Camp Ally's

The following Vendors and Camp Ally's sell uncrafted pails while the event is active:

All Train Station Vendors

Atlantic City - Mobster Vendor

Atlantic City - Muni Vendor

Atlantic City - Showmen Vendor

Middle Mountain Pitstop - Vera

Whitesprings Mall - Faction Vendor bots

Watoga Shopping Plaza - Phoenix

Pleasant Valley Ski Resort - Resin

Charleston Fire Department - Mack

Camden Park - Chad

Grafton Town - Greg

Grahm

Camp Ally - Xerxo

If you are purchasing multiple pails on the same server at the same time then the following route will save you time and fast travel fees.

  • Grafton

    • Train Station

    • Responder bot inside Grafton Town opposite Protest March event

  • Pleasant Valley Ski Resort

    • Train Station

    • Raider bot inside the Ski Resort

  • Whitesprings

    • Train Station (sells x2 of each pail)

    • 5 Faction bots in the Whitesprings Resort

  • Watoga

    • Train Station

    • BOS Vendor in Super Duper Mart

Server hop and repeat.

Once you have purchased the pails, they then need to be crafted at the Tinker's bench.

If you purchase extra pails and leave them unmade, you can craft them once the loot pool has been updated and have a chance to receive the new rewards early.

The Hunting Down method

This guide will work on public and private servers

Note, Treasure Hunter Mole Miners will not spawn inside buildings and instances that require a load screen to enter them.

Step 1) Pick 10 to 12 locations from the list below. It is recommended that you pick one region on the map and only hunt in that region.

Step 2) FT to the first location and murder anything that moves.

Step 3) Loot ALL the bodies (very very important, even if they aren’t Treasure Hunters). You can dump all the crap afterwards but you need those meat piles to disappear for this trick to work.

Step 4) FT to the second location and repeat Step 2 and Step 3

Step 5) Keep Fast Traveling around until you have visited all the locations, repeating Step 2 and Step 3. Take a 10 min break, FT back to the first location and more Treasure Hunters will spawn.

Make sure to keep murdering anything that moves in each location and loot ALL the bodies.

For me personally, if there were no Treasure Hunters there on my first run, then on my second or third run, I would get 1 to 3+ spawn there.

The sweet spot time is 10 to 12 locations. If you pick 9 or less locations then you need to wait about 20 to 25 mins before going back to the first location.

    • Workshops in general (they only spawn during the first stage of “clear the workshop”. Don’t bother going back to the workshop after you have cleared it as Treasure Hunters won’t spawn there again for that session.

    • All Relay Towers (great time to throw a few US Gov Supply drop holotapes in while you are there for a chance at the rare coloured baseball bats)

Note: As of Patch 30, Treasure Hunters no long appear as a yellow dot on your HUD.

Speed runs are an option if you are short on time but are not recommended on a private server. Speed runs consist of fast traveling to every location listed above and from the spawn-in point, looking for yellow dots on your HUD.

The Treasure Hunter Mole Miners are coded to be non-hostile to players and are assigned the yellow non-hostile dots.

If you see yellow dots then there is a good chance it's a Treasure Hunter or an NPC. This tip doesn’t always work for large areas like Camden Park, Mount Blair, Wavy Willards etc so you may still need to run in and have a look around.

Pop some Berry Mentats before going out on a hunt to highlight all enemies purple.
